Bio
Suzanne Novak, MD, PhD is a board certified anesthesiologist with a specialty in outcomes research. She is founder and president of Austin Outcomes Research, Inc., a leading healthcare consulting firm focused on occupational disability and utilization review with multiple national carriers and legal firms as clients. Dr Novak received her MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio and her PhD is in Health Outcomes, with a specialty in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr Novak has over 25 years of combined experience in pain management and research, with a successful track record in providing clinical and administrative guidance to both health providers and insurers in management of patients with long-term occupational disability. She was lead author of the “Pain Chapter” of the Occupational Development Guidelines (ODG®) medical treatment and return-to-work guidelines from the inception of this chapter in 2005 through 2020. Dr Novak is now part of an oversite board of the ODG for MCG Medical Guideline. Her work in the development of ODG® is used by case managers, health-care providers, employers, insurance carriers, state regulators and payers for state workers’ compensation systems. She also serves as clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy where she serves as an educator in the Pharmacy Practice Division.
At Austin Outcomes Research, our staff specialized in providing guidance in all areas of medication management for complex medical cases. This includes for internal medicine, psychiatric care, and chronic pain management.
Our team can perform comparative effectiveness research examining patients with occupational disabilities receiving care within workers compensation and or third- party insurance system.
We also provide medical and pharmaceutical reviews, depositions and medical expert testimony for the legal community.
